I fooled myself into thinking that getting out of work and school by noon each day would give me a lot more time to rest and relax.
Unfortunately, I forgot about the irony of life that says the more time you have to do things the more things you have to do.
Anyhow, thank you for forgiving me for taking 2 weeks to create a new post.
For my random post of the day, I thought I would share some links to the yummy stuff we have been making here at the Flynn house over the last week.
We eat well.
Yesterday I had a hankering to decorate Easter cookies, so I tried iambaker‘s, recipe for sugar cookies. Despite previous posts, I don’t think that I have found my true love when it comes to decoratable sugar cookie recipes yet. Hers may be the new favorite- any recipe calling for 6 tsps of extracts begs my attention.
Now my cookies are begging to be decorated.
My little brothers came into town last weekend and I made them some birthday cupcakes. I used PW’s sheet cake recipe for the chocolate ones and a recipe I found on Tasty Kitchen for the peanut butter cupcakes. Both were delicious, but chocolate was the favorite.
I had the family over to my house on Wednesday for dinner and I made gyros. Unfortunately for all of us, I combined so many recipes for these that they will never be properly recreated again. But it was fun to make my own pitas and tzatziki. My little bro Keith, who served a two year mission in Greece, was very happy with them.
For dessert I made Smitten Kitchen’s Bakewell Tart. Delicious, although grainier than I expected. I guess I didn’t grind my almonds fine enough. It was kinda fun to blanch my own almonds for this recipe.
My recipe failure this week came in the form of the much exclaimed “That’s the Best Frosting I Ever Had.” On my delicious white cake mixed with cherry pie filling, it was separated and grainy and made my cake inedible. I had to throw the whole thing out. Tragic.
Finally, the only thing I made that I actually remembered to take a picture of was not food.
For Keith’s birthday I made him a shirt with one of his old time favorite video game characters. 1,000 bonus points if you know who it is! (There is an easy cheat to figure this out…)
Now that I took that excuse to post a picture of my cute niece, Molly, I’ll show you a close up. I used a mixed media of iron-on transfer and appliqué. It was a blast and turned out really well. I’ll be doing more things along these lines in the future, I’m sure.
Now I’m off to take a shower and study some Russian while I cry over the fact that I didn’t make April Fool’s cupcakes yesterday or Hot Cross Buns this morning.
Pregnancy makes you cry over silly things, its great.
